LOOKING through the Spooks supplement in The Press of October 22, it was good to see the advice given to children going trick or treating.
However, I don’t think it is right to say this is a traditional thing to do at Hallowe’en.
I don’t think so, not in England anyway. It is another import from the US, like calling everybody ‘guys’. When we moved here nearly 49 years ago, we were told of a Yorkshire tradition Mischief Night.
We had never heard of it, as the tradition had thankfully never crossed the border into Co Durham and Northumberland.
