IN YOUR report of October 16 that the decommissioned First World War warship HMS Caroline is to be turned into a floating museum after being given a grant of £11.5m is incorrect in describing it as a "battleship".
The ship in question was a light cruiser, built in 1914 on Merseyside.
I have noticed that several other reports have also described the ship incorrectly and this inaccuracy appears to have come from the Press Association. Perhaps the report should have described the ship as a "warship" or "light cruiser"'.
Those members of the public expecting to see a large ship sprouting 12 inch to 15 inch guns would be disappointed; the largest armament it had was two 6-inch guns. The ship is docked in Belfast.
