THANK you, Fiona Samuel, for drawing attention to the threat posed by the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) at present under discussion (in secret) in the European Parliament (Letters, October 13).

We should all be worried about the possible consequences of this. Large powerful companies can put pressure on governments and levy fines if they feel their profits are being affected.

In Argentina, the government was fined by EDF for trying to freeze energy bills. There could be takeovers threatening smaller businesses and privatisation of our rail system and NHS. Smaller countries depending on trade with the EU or USA could find themselves pushed to one side.

Many MPs and MEPs are not aware of the implications if TTIP goes ahead. Please phone, write or email them.

Contact 38dgrees.org.UK/TTIP or email wdm@wdm.org.uk. for more information.
