I WOULD like to know why some cyclists think they own every footpath.
Recently I walked from Piccadilly to Clifford’s Tower car park, along the pathway that is behind Fenwicks and alongside the Foss.
I was met head on by two cyclists. I had to move out of the way and exclaimed that I thought I was on a footpath, to which one of the cyclists started shouting about how York has very good cycle routes and all paths are open to cyclists.
Not wanting to get into an argument and having a bus to catch, I decided not to retaliate and carried on walking. I could still hear the man shouting (to himself) at the top of his voice about how he was in the right.
I haven’t seen any cycle signs on that stretch of path, so therefore he was in the wrong.
Since then I have observed many, many cyclists using footpaths that they are not supposed to be on. Why?
