AS I write this letter it is World Mental Health Day. Locally, York Mind, The Retreat and others are holding events to raise awareness of mental health and helping end discrimination against those, like myself, who suffer from these hidden illnesses.
With that in mind, I want to say how utterly appalled I was at the conduct of councillors James Alexander and Daffyd Williams regarding David Smith.
David was surely fully within his rights to criticise the performance of the council. That he chose to do so under a pseudonym should have been entirely irrelevant.
An adult response to David’s comments would have been to engage with the issues. Now North Yorkshire has lost a foremost champion on mental health.
Andrew Butler, Selby.
