THERE have been many articles in The Press over the past couple of years about the Allerton Park incinerator scheme (The Press, September 26).
Every time the total cost of £1,400,000,000 is reported, but we have never been told how much of this huge amount City of York Council is committed to. Why the secrecy?
With a budget of £120 million and debts of £300 million, surely ratepayers need to be told how deep the council is financially involved in a scheme way out of its league. The outgoing Labour Cabinet could be leaving a debt legacy and debt interest repayments that will impoverish future administrations.
