HAVING created so many beneficial health facilities in the past (The British Children’s Asthmatic Swimming Groups, for example) as well as swimming for the long-term patients at Clifton Hospital and swimming for the elderly, disabled etc, I am naturally suspicious when non-swimmers (like our council members) group together with yet another plan.
In a few years, none of them will be around, Yearsley Pool will have gone and many years of health protective swimming will have given way to traffic-blocking facility which Messrs Nestle will encompass with the wealth created by York workers.
Swiss-owned companies are perhaps less likely to behave like the old Rowntree company. They are there for their shareholders, in common with all manufacturing companies.
I am awaiting the final curtain, but would like swimmers to protect their valuable facility. They will never get it back once it has gone.
