THANKS to your reporters for sharing the briefing paper to the council that appears to show that the new leisure pool and £4 million required for it is “inextricably linked” to its survival as a scheme.
It’s about time they came clean on the situation.
We understood when the Vangarde development was to be built that Oakgate developments were helping to fund the stadium as part of their permission to build on green belt, and that that was the link.
The mention of replacing our relatively recently built and award-winning Waterworld only came years later, so until recently was not linked at all.
If Waterworld has really been allowed to decline, then please don’t reward their management with the gift of running the new stadium and some of our beloved and well-run other facilities.
The complex would have been there by now if it had been stipulated that those new shops were not allowed to open before the community stadium.
