MUCH has been reported on the recent referendum of Scotland. Most of this has been from people who know little of Scotland but believe that they are qualified to criticise the finest politician the UK has ever produced.

My love of Scotland started some 40 years back when my work necessitated several lengthy stays there. On retirement personal friendships developed which meant that I came to know this beautiful country and its political structure and the morals and principles of its people, most of which are light years ahead of Westminster.

Compare First Ministers’ Questions with Westminster’s PMQ – rather like comparing the school playground with a top debating society. Look at Scotland’s priorities on student fees and other aspects of humanitarian issues. These are the reasons that so many people wanted independence, so that they could follow the moral values so many of us were brought up to believe in.

The sight of the swarm of MPs fighting to get to Scotland when they thought they were in danger of losing one their most valuable assets was a disgrace to our political system.
