PHEW! It was the highest turnout in UK history yet the people of Scotland finally gave a resounding no to Independence.

I do not pretend to know the economic or political repercussions if Scotland had left the United Kingdom.

To my mind the only thing of importance was our flag: it is beautiful and should stay that way and not be regressed back to the bland ghost of our past..

Yet is this a warning of things to come?

Our political leaders from both parties promised the earth to Scotland if only they would vote to stay in.

Now there appears to be a certain back-tracking taking place.

Soon we too will be putting our tick on the ballot sheet as a new General Election takes place in 2015.

Perhaps we should pay special heed to the way Scotland will now be treated. Will we also be next to be given false hopes and promises that we had been given last time around; the ‘jam tomorrow’, rhetoric which fools nobody any more?
