READING the article in The Press of September 15 headlined “Cyclist in hit and run” made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.
For this has happened just a week short of a year since my wife, Julia, was knocked off her cycle in the same road, Crichton Avenue, and also on a Sunday, at approximately the same time and on a dry and clear morning.
The cyclist in the recent accident suffered minor injuries, while my wife’s injuries were not so minor – pins in her leg, months of inactivity, intense treatment on her knee, three months off work and the knowledge that she will require a new knee sooner rather than later.
How can a motorist on a modern wide road on a bright and clear day simply not see a cyclist? The effect of not being seen will be with my wife for the rest of her life.
