I BEG to differ with your editorial comment that a hung council is undesirable because it could leave York rudderless with no sense of direction (The Press, September 10).
I maintain that a hung council is exactly what we do want to ensure policies are not those forced through following the extreme dogma of one particular party; but are arrived at by genuine debate, discussion and consensus with all political groups.
More people voted for other parties than voted Labour at the last council elections and overall only 14 out of every 100 potential electors voted for the current administration.
Since then support for the regime has manifestly disintegrated. Three councillors have left the group and others are clearly unhappy.
The last thing we need is for a small group of unrepresentative politicians to impose its will over all citizens.
