WHAT a sad indictment of local politics that the Labour councillors who make the majority on the Corporate Scrutiny Committee did not ask their Cabinet colleagues to think again over their unfair decision not to refund all over the Lendal Bridge debacle.
This was the last chance for the Labour group to retrieve some dignity and restore some of the reputation destroyed among thousands of visitors who have been left with a bad taste in their mouth.
The Labour group tell us that they want to draw a line but this decision will do exactly the contrary.
This whole saga will not die down until they show some integrity and do the fair thing.
And who knows what legal challenges will follow in the future?
What is certain, as already seen in the comments section and on the doorstep, is this vote will ensure that the issue remains hot on the lips of even former Labour voting residents who feel badly let down.
Coun Paul Doughty, Conservative, Strensall ward, City of York Council.
