Tell us your ideas

First published in Letters by

ONE OF the most common things residents tell me is that the Labour-run City of York Council does not listen to them.

This is why, through our York 2015 initiative, we want to develop our local manifesto hand-in-hand with residents.

We want to hear your ideas to ensure we have the very best policies to stand on at next year’s local elections and we tackle the issues that really matter to local people.

We want your thoughts on how the council after 2015 can best address issues such as congestion, helping local businesses, improving local services, increasing recycling or anything else that matters to local people.

The best policies will then be included in our manifesto and, if the election results go our way next May, work on implementing your ideas can begin in earnest.

So, however big or small the idea, please tell us by visiting yorklibdems.org.uk/york2015, emailing us at york2015@yorklibdems.org.uk or by writing to us at ‘York 2015’ York Liberal Democrats, Unit 12A Victoria Farm Estate, Water Lane, Clifton, YO30 6PQ.

I look forward to reading your ideas.

Cllr Keith Aspden, Leader of York Liberal Democrats, City of York Council.

IF your struggling to recognise what is needed in York post the Labour catastrophe then where in Gods name is the hope.

Provision of basic services to households and the vulnerable, on time within cost.

Optimised traffic flows through the city by removal of all unnecessary obstructions to traffic flow.

Stop the waste of money that seems to have become acceptable with £700 per day contractors and the spy network being flagged as a free wifi service.

Deliver the basics and your over half-way there, you should not need help in identifying what the basics are.

Labours score adjusting elves are busy today, putting the world to rights adjusting scores making their land of make believe a reality for them, how sad, how paranoid.

Enjoy, your time is limited, you have everything to fear from the future, I have everything to expect better than you delivered.

"We want your thoughts on how the council after 2015 can best address issues such as congestion"

You want our thoughts then? Here is one or two: -

When you were last in office you gave Mr (I will resign - Not!) Merrett (in 2006) the chair on committees to do with all things traffic. From that point Mr Merrett, in conjunction with yourselves, gave us massive congestion, up to 48% increases in pollution with no increase in volume of traffic. We now waste half our lives sitting at pointless short set (as you describe them) traffic lights waiting for nothing to move.

This all culminated in the Lendal Bridge fiasco. A bridge closure which was part of the seemingly car free transport plan, which I guess Mr Merrett's committees had written for you, that you signed off when in office.

Wait for it, Mr Hepworth will poised at his keyboard, to give us some of his pearls of wisdom re Mr Merrett.

No, he's too busy score adjusting on behalf of the labour council.
