THERE have been numerous letters about litter and I agree that it is a problem.
The discarded bottles, cans and takeaway food cartons can be picked up by people, but the most prolific litterer is Mother Nature, who spreads her droppings far and wide and this is not so easily removed.
For some weeks now the areas where there are trees have been carpeted with the seeds in their protective shields, piling up around the weeds at the footpath edges or blocking the gutters.
There they are blown or washed over the gully grates, which in turn are compressed by the road traffic. This blocks them up, causing a build up of water when there is heavy rain.
A chain of events that could be avoided if ‘natural’ litter was removed early enough.
Autumn is fast approaching so the situation will get progressively worse with falling leaves, so some attention to the problem would be greatly appreciated to stop this untended, unattractive sight.
