So DM Deamer thinks AP Cox should be more public-spirited (Letters, August 16). Furthermore, he states that Mr Cox should tidy up Holgate’s footpaths and gutters himself. Well, he already has if he has paid his council tax.

Where does Mr Deamer draw the line? Perhaps he would like to see droves of us hauling our wheelie bins to the dump, having a bash at filling in pot-holes or cleaning up piles of goose poo?

Get real, this Council should concentrate on providing essential services instead of expensive schemes they hope will get their names in York’s history books.

D McTernan, Fossway, York.
