EACH year the council contacts 2,000 tenants in a survey about their home and community. I would like to thank those who replied this year as your comments help with improvements to the housing services.

While Cllr Reid highlighted four areas where satisfaction had reduced – including rent levels – it was disingenuous not to mention the 12 areas of improvement or four constants.

Areas of improvement included opportunities to be involved in management and decision making; fair treatment for their landlord; and being kept informed about complaints. Services that remained constant were repairs and maintenance, the attitude of workers and keeping dirt and mess to a minimum.

Two concerns were dog fouling and car parking. Cllr Reid needs to be praising the housing services provided which are rated as good.

Cllr Tracey Simpson-Laing, Cabinet Member for Homes & Safer Communities, City of York Council.

So as we read on Saturday, Labours response to the concern about lack of parking space on housing estates is to knock down garage blocks and build on them.

The Housing Department needs to provide more off street parking area and lay-bys and also reintroduce the dropped kerb/verge crossover programme that they scrapped when Labour took office.
