Gaza support

First published in Letters by

I AM encouraged to see such a significant public response to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, thousands taking to the streets across the world, and making clear to our politicians that their actions are not good enough to rein in the hugely disproportionate, illegal and savage attacks on the civilian population of Gaza by the Israeli government.

York Palestine Solidarity Campaign is calling on all who want to see justice for the people of Palestine, and to say to our politicians, who continue to support these acts of aggression, ‘Not in my name’ to join us for a massive display of support for the people of Gaza, on Saturday at noon, meeting in the York Minster plaza area, near the statue of Constantine for a march and rally.

Keep in touch through our Facebook page at York PSC.

Sue Cooke, Windmill Rise, York.

Your analysis of the "Palestine problem" is dangerously naive. The activities of the PLO (Hamas by another name) blowing up aircraft in the air and on the ground, the killing of athletes at the Olympic games. A reasonable response? You cannot negotiate with your neighbour by denying their existence and threatening to burn their house down with them in it. You also conveniently ignore the wholesale slaughter of Muslims by other Muslims in Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Iran Afghanistan etc. etc. The origins, are not least in the Sykes Picot agreement and Balfour declaration of a hundred years ago. Pacifism is a great idea. But unfortunately it is inconsistent with the history of human behaviour. Nor is simply thinking that your sworn enemies will treat you humanely born out. Auschwitz ring any bells?

"hugely disproportionate, illegal and savage attacks on the civilian population of Gaza by the Israeli government." This isn`t an analysis, its a statement of fact, simply saying what happened.

mjgyork seems to be blaming the Palestinians for all atrocities committed by Muslims. If he is going to start on history, don`t forget the Crusades which were an unprovoked assault on the people of the Middle east, or the attacks on Afghanistan and Iraq which haven`t won any friends for the west.

I do hope any decendants from the period of the Crusades do not decide to put a claim in. Because our legal vultures ever seeking another claim culture means with a government like ours tied into the very same crap we are **gered.

"gwen4me": You have completely misunderstood what I said! I am putting the blame first and foremost on the British an French governments of a hundred years ago, to carve up the Middle Eastern lands that they did not own, or even control at that time. They did this with the two groups who already had a VERY long history of antagonism. The after WWI they sold them both out in the pursuit of Empire and OIL!
"hugely disproportionate, illegal and savage attacks": Not a statement of fact, but an opinion. One which could be equally applied to indiscriminate firing thousands of rockets at your neighbours. And this by an organisation that has been declared a terrorist by most countries for at least 50 years! Unfortunately they now find themselves in 'government'. Twas ever so I am afraid to say.

I am afraid it is always one way with Cooke and friends, what about the brutal anti Semitism displayed in England, Germany and France by muslims . It is no different to Abu Hamza, now thankfully locked up, preaching death and hate to non muslims in Finsbury Park.
