ON Saturday I attended a meeting about Stonebow House at the Central Methodist Church.
There was a speaker who was an architect and liked the buildings, which was his choice. He called it “brutal” which is a good word. I would describe it as ugly. Stonebow House, because of its size will always have a problem of integrating into a medieval street.
What also came out of the meeting was there was a lot of local prejudice about the building and since living in York since 1985, I have never found anybody who likes it.
Many people are tired of the subject and no action. It would be great to see the way the White Swan is improving... happening at Stonebow.
