IN June, I walked along Holgate Road to have a look at the newly planted/sown wildflower beds behind The Fox Inn I had read about in The Press and was disappointed when I saw just a handful of poppies and weeds.

Wildflower meadow - where? But this story has a happy ending thanks to the recent reader’s letter from a lady called Dorothy, who sang the praises of the beautiful meadow. I thought I must have been too early when I visited in June and repeated my walk on Saturday, printing off a location map to make sure I had been to the correct location last time.

The map showed in addition to The Fox Inn flower beds an even bigger planted area a little further up the road. Needless to say when I then saw this very big meadow in all its brightness I was speechless. The brilliance of this colourful display almost outshone the sun. Please do go along and take in this magnificent work of art before mowing.

To Jane Lund and the hard working team that made it happen, helped a little by Mother Nature of course - thank you so much and good luck and success with the beds behind The Fox Inn. I can’t wait to watch the miracle unfold over there too next year.
