COUNCILLOR John Galvin of Bishopthorpe ward’s letter of July 19 in support of his so-called “golden opportunity” of building more social/affordable housing in the Dringhouses and Woodthorpe ward around the Tesco roundabout is a classic example of “not in my ward”.
Is he proposing to build more flats there in the same manner as the current blocks on the Revival site that now dominate the historic southern entrance to our city?
I am not aware that Cllr Galvin has asked for local residents’ views on this, including those in the Revival blocks.
It demonstrates that York Tories have perhaps decided that they have no chance of having councillors elected in Dringhouses and Woodthorpe and have given up on the ward.
In spite of this type of housing being “desperately needed”, I would suggest that Cllr Galvin has no similar suggestions in Bishopthorpe or in any other Tory held or target ward. If he has, I would be delighted to hear them.
Nick Emmerson, Dringhouses, York.
