WITH regards to letters in The Press about the Halifax Bomber, I am very interested in this matter.
At the age of 14 years, I lived at Hirst Courtney, not far from Burn Airfield and other Yorkshire air fields. When the planes were taking off and landing they would fly over our village.
When they went bombing they would form a formation and the sky would be full of them.
At 18 I joined the Parachute Regiment, doing my first jump at Ringway, Manchester.
After the war finished we went to Palestine. I did several jumps there, the last in October 26 to 28, 1947, and yes, we jumped from Halifax Bombers.
A Smales, Hemingbrough.
