REGARDING the state of the streets of York, in reality we have two issues.

One is the rubbish discarded in and around the city. The answer is to employ community wardens with the power to administer on-the-spot fines for people dropping rubbish, feeding the birds (indirectly creating mess by the river side by encourage them to congregate near people ) and dogs fouling the pavements.

And two: the same wardens to report back to the council on the state of any overgrown kerb edges, gutters and drains that require maintenance.

The problem with rubbish is the people who deposit it will always be with us. Let’s get a bit of pride back into the city.
