RECENTLY many letters have addressed litter on the streets of York. This is a problem everywhere in our country and a problem that is getting worse.

This litter is unsightly and causes problems to the environment as most litter that isn’t picked up ends up in our watercourses and eventually the oceans.

There is a solution, but it needs a change in the attitude people have towards their area.

When people see litter on their streets they should see it as their responsibility to do something, rather than point the finger.

Here in Tadcaster a group has been set up to encourage residents to adopt their area of town and take on the responsibility of keeping their particular area clear of litter.

With the financial backing of local businesses, who display window stickers showing their support, we have been able to purchase sets of litter picking equipment that will be given to the people who “adopt” therefore making the job possible.

Our next clean is at noon on August 2, starting at Catterton Lane. All Tadcaster residents are invited. Together we can solve this problem.
