I WELCOME criticism, but why does Mr/Ms Rawcliffe think I advocate getting the unemployed to clean York’s streets for nothing?
The council should offer the job of street cleaning to the unemployed and pay a fair price; to expect them to do it free would be nothing less than slavery — quite out of the question in a fair society.
York is much visited and it is really important that people get a pleasant picture of our lovely city. I was brought up with the adage “don’t put it down — put it away” and it is a pity more people do not clear up behind themselves.
