RECENTLY, my elderly mother, who suffers from dementia, went missing for a very fraught six-and-a-half hours.
The response from York police was superb. They mobilised the British Transport Police, the bus companies, and social media.
I would like to publicly thank the two Community Support Officers who were incredibly professional and supportive; the passenger on the Number 10 bus who recognised mum’s photo from the social media sites and realised she had shared a bus journey earlier that day; and the driver of the First York bus in Strensall who realised she was on his bus and drove her back to the depot.
I would also like to thank all the police officers and care home staff who searched for hours for her and the Chief Inspector who drove her home.
York is indeed a dementia-friendly city.
Kate Buckley, Wentworth Road, York.
