HAVING had two letters printed in the past 12 months or so criticising City of York Council, I felt should give credit where it is deserved.

On Sunday the organisation and expertise that went into the wonderful Tour de France Grand Départ from York was second to none. It was enjoyed by many thousands of people and the council’s efforts were fantastic.

I really do hope they have learned the very simple lesson, that going with what the majority of voters want is the only way to travel.

I think you will find the council were just told what to do by the TDF organisers who have a lot of experience in there things.

What we don't know and are unlikely to be told, is what it cost the city in lost business and due to the disruption. I also dispute that it was what the majority of voters wanted.

Exactly on the button wallman, it was the TDF who ran the show, if York labour council had anything to do with the actual organisation it would have been a complete and utter mess.

Exactly. The only bit of it the Council were responsible for was the "Grand Departy" thing, and by all accounts that was an organisational disaster.
