I DON’T claim to know much about football, but like most of the population I was shocked to see England go out in the first round of the World Cup.

So what happens next? They arrive back home with the usual excuses and say next time will be different.

I think what these footballers should do, bearing in mind that between them they will be earning in excess of £5 million per week, is start to put their efforts into playing and training for the country the represent and forget about book sales, aftershave, clothing, sporting goods promotions, etc.

They need to be fully focused on playing football and ensuring that next time we can come back with the results they deserve for their dedication and hard work. If we don’t change, then in four years it will be another early exit for English football.
