Route problem

First published in Letters by

I AM looking forward to the Tour de France starting its second day in the city, but would question the route planning as it leaves the city.

For many it will cause great inconvenience.

The closure of the A1237 outer bypass, and the new Poppleton Bar Park&Ride could have been avoided, with a little more thought.

The race could have been directed from Boroughbridge Road into Low Poppleton Lane and under the bypass, through Poppleton, and back on to the A59 at the Red Lion.

The bypass could have remained open, and the Park&Ride been able to run into York via Wetherby Road and Acomb.

Trevor Scott, Boroughbridge Road, York.

I think that this was determined by the requirements of the event organisers, and is likely based on the fact that rides will be bunched together more at the start, than when they become more "spread out" in rural areas.
