I AM writing to draw attention to the Big Five energy companies owned by Europe - we in England only own the sixth.

I never voted to be in the Common Market and certainly would have never entertained a Federal Europe in the EU, but would like to make this observation.

Of the Big Six energy companies, two are owned by Germany, one by France, one by Spain and one by Scotland.

To me, as a layman, that means 90 per cent of our energy is outsourced.

I was appalled at this and then discovered that in 2006 Russia’s Gazprom wanted to buy out British Gas, owned by Centrica. In April of that year Tony Blair announced that he would not block the deal.

Just think of the consequences of that happening with what is now happening in Ukraine.
