HANG on a minute, did I read that correctly? In last week’s Tony Kelly sports column (June 7), he asked various sporting luminaries their opinion on England’s World Cup line-up.
Stuart Martel, sports editor, said he couldn’t comment because he hadn’t watched a premier league or international football match for “at least six years”.
Now to me, that’s like the producer of The Great British Bake Off saying “we won’t include eggs in any of our recipes because I don’t like them”.
I would expect a sports editor to watch and be knowledgeable about all types of sport, including football, which after all is sport, isn’t it?
