THE Press (June 3) reports on the intended flypast for the Grand Départ on July 6.
It is planned to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the arrival of two Free French squadrons serving in bombers based at Elvington from 1944.
As we once again deservedly applaud these French airmen, perhaps appreciation might be shown by sparing a thought for squadrons of heavy bombers of the Royal Canadian Air Force, all based in Yorkshire, from 1943 to 1945 operating with Halifaxes and Lancasters.
