LIKE many others I have been glued to the TV the past few days and can hardly believe what I see and hear.

However, we live in a democracy and the people have spoken, so now we are all going to have to live with the results.

The only light on the horizon is that politicians will, hopefully, start listening to the people who put them into their elated positions.

In the meanwhile can someone please tell me why they have voted for a party whose representatives are totally opposed to the organisation they will now be earning a magnificent salary from – courtesy of Joe Public – and whose past performances have, without any shadow of doubt, proven their inability/unwillingness to do the duties they were elected to fulfil?

As an ex-councillor, can you imagine the people of Holgate’s reaction if I publicly stated that after accepting my responsibilities, I refused to vote on behalf of the people who put me there, so attended meetings purely and simply to claim my £300 daily allowances plus other equally generous allowances?
