NOW that the letter explosion has died down over Lendal Bridge, may I ask a hypothetical question?

I am expecting a herd of bullocks to arrive at York Station; can I drive them over Lendal Bridge, resting awhile at Clifton Green, on the way to my mythical farm in Skelton?

Lendal Bridge was provided by York Corporation for the use of local people and according to the archives there were no exclusions.

Anne Church, Severus Avenue, Acomb, York.

As I understand it, the way things stand at the moment is this :

A human has a right to cross the bridge on foot. A cow (or horse) has the right to cross the bridge on its own hooves. A cycle, car, van, lorry, bus or road train has the right to cross on its own wheels. A Hurricane however must be transported.

There were no exclusions, but there was a toll paid for crossing; half a penny for foot passengers, a penny for animals and twopence for horse-drawn vehicles. Nothing for bikes, so a few people here will be pleased...
