CERTAIN council officials continue to perpetuate the myth that York’s pollution levels were reduced with the trial closure of Lendal Bridge.

Forgive my simple reasoning, but surely if 80 per cent of normal bridge traffic had to travel further and longer to circumvent the closure, then surely the pollution levels in the city must have been considerably higher overall.

Yes, Lendal itself would have enjoyed considerable improvement and I believe this is what these people try to convey as being the same for all areas of our city, when this was was far removed from reality.

I can’t imagine what the levels in areas such as Rougier Street, Leeman Road and Bootham were at this time and perhaps we’ll never know.
