FOLLOWING the ending of the trial closure of Lendal Bridge, it is surely apparent now as never before that closing the bridge to private cars is essential to dealing with chronic congestion problems.

After six months of improvement, we clearly see the impact of unrestricted traffic: queues of standing vehicles throughout Bootham, Gillygate, Lawrence Street and other approach roads; chaos around the railway station and across the bridge itself; air pollution; wasted time; and delays to buses and taxis.

Please restore the closure at the earliest possible moment and let us enjoy the benefits of an improved environment for all residents and visitors to our city.
