ON JUNE 6, the 70th anniversary of the D Day landings will be celebrated.

The York Branch of the Normandy Veterans’ Association has worked hard over the past few years to raise the funds to enable remaining veterans who are fit enough to visit Normandy for the last time.

Over the past three years, York Inset Scooter Club has developed a close relationship with the veterans and raised more than £3,000 for them and YKSoul has held a charity soul music evening.

We are holding two more events this weekend to help give the veterans a final push to the Normandy celebrations.

The first on Saturday evening is a YKSoul charity soul music night in the Guildhall, St Helen’s Square, York.

The events runs from 7pm until midnight.

Entry is £5 payable on the door and across-the-board soul music on vinyl records will be played by YKSoul DJs Nick Beilby and Steve Bradley, along with guest DJ Mick Burnett.

The second event is on Sunday, when York Inset Scooter Club and Ryedale Riders motorcycle club will hold their annual Mods and Rockers reunion ride.

This year, the run is to Oliver’s Mount, Scarborough and will raise funds for the Normandy Veterans and the Moorland rescue team. The run will depart from the Eye of York at 10.30am.

All riders are welcome and are requested to donate a minimum of £5.
