QUESTION time. Like many people I am intrigued as to why there are no gambling casinos in York.

The demand must be absolutely huge. Every Tuesday there is a disappearance of people travelling to Leeds, Bradford, also Manchester to have their perfectly legal spin of the wheel.

York has no shortage of other licensed establishments, from betting shops to sex shops. Want a flutter on the gee-gees? Not far to go.

Councils come and councils go, fascinating to know, historically, obviously not a prayer of a casino for York. Can we thank (or blame) the Church influence?

Comments welcomed from the informed on the subject.
