WITH regards to the feature in The Press of April 10 about police divers who search for missing people in the rivers of York, these officers do a fantastic job going into cold water.
They have no clue what’s in the rivers and they are open to infection if they are cut on anything unseen in the water. All the man hours are put in but they never give up. Well done, lads.
I have suggested before that ladders should be put up around Foss Bank because of the high sides: even if you can swim you can’t get out.
Yet you could spend millions on river safety but, sadly, you can’t stop someone who might be drunk jumping in or falling in: no safety measures will stop this. You are responsible for yourself or each other if out in a group.
How are people getting this drunk if it’s illegal to sell drinks to someone who already appears to be drunk?
