DRAX power station is in the middle of converting from burning coal to wood chips imported from America. Just down the road is Eggborough power station which wants to convert from coal to wood chips, but with no help from the Government it faces closure because burning coal is not seen to be good for the environment.

Meanwhile a few more miles down the road there are proposals to close Kellingley coal mine along with Thoresby in Nottinghamshire, losing our last deep coal mines plus the skills and jobs that go with it.

Then comes the announcement that next to Drax there are plans to build a new coal-fired power station with carbon capture which will be piped then stored under the North Sea.

With a little imagination it doesn't take much to give Kellingley and Thoresby more money to keep them open. They in turn could supply Eggborough and the new coal-fired station at Drax. Stopping imports from as far as Columbia and Russia.

Carbon emissions from Eggborough could be pumped the short distance to Drax to be treated with the new coal power stations and pumped and stored in the North Sea.
