THE three-hours free parking scheme is to be welcomed, as the council is giving a bit back to the hard-pressed motorist, but has it been thought through?

How many motorists are in York at 8am before the shops open, and will people wanting to stay past 11am have to return to their cars to purchase a valid ticket?

The Park&Ride system is brilliant and should be encouraged more. Why not give three hours free travel from these sites, with the added bonus of pleasing our green friends.

Magicman! says...

I'd rather see a P&R ticket based on parking rather than use of the bus.... you park the car, and at the ticket machine you enter how many people are in the car and whether you'll be parked for 'full day' (presumed until the site closes) or 'half day' (until 4pm)... then on payment a double ticket is printed, one piece going onto the car... then the group of people who have travelled in the car all get on the bus and show the ticket to the driver to board the bus - the ticket itself would allow 4 journeys, so meaning peoploe could fill up with shopping and make a trip back to the car to offload before coming back for more.
