Final cash to city

York Press: Final cash to city Final cash to city

TO QUANTIFY the the Lendal Bridge fines, I have been fined, totally oblivious at the time to actually breaking any by law, due to both ignorance and poor signs.

To add insult to injury I find my transgression was after the trial end date. The only action available to me is to grudgingly pay the fine and never visit the city again, the net cost about £200 per year.

Multiply this by the 5,0000 other poor suckers to whom this has happened and I hope the council spend the £30 quids wisely. It’s the last money York will see from me and many others.

Mr C Watson, Glentham, Market Rasen, Lincs

Of course. Approaching the wall from the station it looks like a convention of the British Road Signs Appreciation Society.

Does that include the non-working illuminated sign? Until it was fixed (very recent) it appeared to point traffic TOWARDS Lendal Bridge, rather than warn against going that way.

Well if he wasn't in the habit of reading signs, he's probably in Huddersfield now thinking "Eh? this doesn't look like home!"

The matrix sign wasn't working when I passed it the other day?

In a tit-for-tat move I'm never going to Market Rasen; not because I got caught driving without due care and attention there, but because its an awful hole.

It pointed towards Lendal Bridge and said it was closed, with the times. If it had no arrow the people who advance this spurious "poor signage" argument would say "ooh how can people know where the bridge is?" and if it pointed right they would say "Its telling them to turn right and could cause a crash".
The people who have been fined should man up, pay their fines and resolve to open their eyes next time they are away from home. If they don't want to come here again just do it and stop whinging.

It's a good thing we are not in Wales where every sign had to be bilingual then they would whine "I can't see where I am driving because of all these signs!".
