WITH reference to the letter in Monday’s Press from William Dixon Smith of Acomb, (The Press, March 17) may I thank him for “pointing me in the right direction” on this matter (“The idea of Joseph Stalin chatting to the Pope about military matters is whimsical”).

I have enjoyed delving into the detail which confirms we ignore history at our peril and can learn much from it.

In this case, mind our own business when we have more than enough problems of our own and precious little to influence others.

F Wyatt, Pocklington.
