York Press: Mobile disco Mobile disco

I was woken late one night this week and also recently again woken by what I can only describe as the loudest noise I have ever heard coming from a car.

The driver of this vehicle had some kind of sound system which had a bass level so high that I was actually shaking in bed and that hasn’t happened to me in many a long year.

This car and its owner must be local as surely there can’t be two as loud as this.

I would hate to think what his/her hearing is like if they are driving around with that kind of a din blasting out.

Mr S Atkinson, Gillygate, York

It's not just Gillygate. Perhaps it's time all people who choose to install expensive hi-fi gear in their vehicles should consider other road users and local inhabitants. I understand all such equipment is fitted with a volume control. Owners should give thought to using this, turn down in the built up area and up in the countryside?

I often thought a car was for travelling from A to B (and sometimes to C), what is the purpose of such equipment? Also, how / why do people need to "compete"? "My audio systems bigger than your audio system",... youth of today... sigh...

well mr chuckles. you were once a youth and im 99.9% you probably had a nice hobby when you were young, just because in this day and age we have access to newer and alot better technology than you had it shouldn't necessarily be seen as a bad thing, wouldn't you rather see, someone like me for instance, sat tinkering in my garage until the early hours with my car not bothering anyone, rather than going into town with a group of friends getting really drunk or taking drugs and breaking things and taking up police time, healthcare's time etc etc?

It's known to be fairly healthy to have a "shake" in bed every so often, if you have any further problems with erectile dysfunction I'd recommend seeing your local GP.

I thought having loud music blasting out of cars was illegal apart from annoying you can't hear emergency services you just get the thump thump no real definition of a song.and tests have shown loud rock type music makes you drive faster slower music quieter music helps you keep near the spewed limit.at least the driver above said it could of been him and made a note of it he does not want to offend anyone so hope he takes note and be a better driver.

If I offend anyone with my 80's compilations/Radio 2 then I am truly sorry. I often wonder if anyone is thinking 'hark at that silly old fool' when I have my sunroof open and cruising along, singing at the top of my voice . I am always aware of the 'home time' sirens wanting to get past me at 5pm though. .
