I WAS surprised but pleased to hear that your correspondent (“It doesn’t add up,” February, 19) had no problems when travelling from Haxby to York Station.

Then the penny dropped: it was rush hour so Lendal Bridge would not have been closed at that time.

This shows just how phony the trial is: how can the effect of the proposed permanent closure from 7am to 7pm be properly accessed when the trial is only between 10.30am to 5pm?

The citizens of this city are not fools; they can tell when the wool is being pulled in front of their eyes.

A part-time closure followed by selective examination of the evidence is not a trial but merely a justification of that which has already been decided.
