IN 2011 Coun James Alexander said he was amazed the city had no hotel strategy and that he had asked for one to be written.

Since that date, there have been several permissions granted for hotels in the city centre. The old Airspeed factory in Piccadilly looks set to go down that route, with Coun Alexander claiming, even before the tenders were evaluated, that the site was likely to become a hotel.

I understand that good quality hotel rooms were available in the city over the festive period for as little as £30 per night, which suggests that we have reached saturation point and that the hotel strategy, when and if it is finally written after three years, will have been overtaken by events.
