Tubs and bollards too

York Press: . .

WITH reference to the article about A-boards presenting a hazard to blind and partially sighted people (The Press, December 28), when the special body set up by the council convenes to look into the matter, I hope they will also take into account the number of flower tubs that are on the pavements surrounding the new council offices.

And also the bollards and cycle racks on pavements in the town centre, as these present a similar danger.

AP Cox, Heath Close, Holgate, York.

If you mean the flower tubs on Tanner Row, they were placed there partly to stop cars being parked there.

AP Cox had to get a cycle mention in there somewhere... it just wouldn't have been the same without it. Maybe I should nickname him the "antipaul", like the antichrist but as a reflection of pedalling paul whereby his obsessional bicycle mentions are against cycles.

Does AP Cox even have any sight defect?

AP Cox's rematks re the tubs, bollards and cycle racks are small change when you consider what the anti-car pp wants for his wish list in 2014, his rethoric against cars and the promotion of cycles is frighting as he states:

Nationally I hope that Government will make consistent and long term investment in urban cycling right across the UK, to replace their present competitive bids from limited pots of money.

I would also like to see vehicle excise duty, wrongly called ‘road tax’, to be officially renamed ‘pollution tax’, and all emergency service ‘accident investigation unit’ vehicles renamed ‘collision investigation unit’.

“I hope that the Tour de France effect will produce a lasting enthusiasm for recreational and racing cycling, across the Yorkshire region. The recently suggested alliance with West Yorkshire might produce cash for a long demanded ‘upgrade’ of the A1237. But new capacity encourages more car travel. So I hope this debate will be tempered by a realistic 2014 assessment, of how few years it would be, before a dualled road becomes as congested as the existing one.

I hope he never gets into a position of power, imagine if he was the council leader!!!!

I think perhaps AP Cox does have a sight defect - after all last time it was whinged about "cycle racks blocking pavements" I pointed out that the pavements were built out specially with extra bits to accommodate the racks. So no pavement has been taken away or blocked.

Isn't prejudice a wonderful thing?
No. No, it isn't.
