WE WERE originally told by the council that joining the West Yorkshire Plus Transport Fund could see us benefit from Government grants of millions for new transport infrastructure.
Now we are told that a levy on council tax bills (The Press, December 23) will pay for this fund.
How typical. Firstly, that our council leaders never told us about this impost on our local taxes. Secondly, that the government is passing on to local taxpayers schemes that used to be funded centrally from Whitehall.
At least we will get a referendum on whether we want this new levy.
Before this even happens, we must have a local referendum on whether York residents want anything to do with this super council that spreads as far as the border with Lancashire.
