Aid for superpower

York Press: Aid for superpower Aid for superpower

I FIND it unbelievable that we have continued to hand over aid to China.

This superpower has just sent a rocket to the moon and yet we’re sending them aid. It’s our government that needs a rocket up it.

People here are struggling to make ends meet and yet we hand over £11.2 billion in foreign aid to countries including £27.4 million last year to China.

This was supposed to have been axed but it appears from information from the Department of International Development that is not the case.

China has £2 trillion reserves so it is hardly struggling.

Ah yes Jane but the Dept for International Development said that most of this £27.4 Million given to China was to help them fight climate change!!!!!!!

Isn't it ironic that an ice breaker taking BBC (Licence payer paid) so called scientists on a Jolly to see how climate change is affecting the Antarctic.
I think they now know the answer. Despite it being mid Summer down there, the vessel is stuck fast in pack ice and has been since Christmas eve.
The Chinese Ice breaker sent to rescue them then also became ice bound, miles behind the Russian ship.
In an interview, one of these junk scientists even said that if the ice they were stuck in were to melt it would have a devastating effect on sea levels. In fact it would make no difference as that water has already been displaced. More duff scaremongering.

At the other end, in the Spring of 2009, the Catlin Arctic expedition wanted to show the Alarmists who were to gather in Co2penhagen that December that the Arctic was melting. What actually happened was that their instruments would not work in temperatures below -40C and the three had to be rescued from the ice at just past their half way point.
This trip was sponsored by the WWF and that Royal bufoon himself, Prince Charles.(Not so many months left to save the planet now Sir)

The Millions given to China are just the tip of the iceberg (No pun intended) concerning the fortune we waste on the unproven hype that man made CO2 causes global warming. We are set to spend £18.2 Billion pa until 2050. We will also need to spend even more to re-build our power stations clossed in error!

Xenophobia wins again!

I'm not in favour of aid to China, but it's revealing to see how UKIP chooses it's targets.
The British public have been robbed of £56 million by the Tory wheeze of charging premium rates to phone Government departments. Analysis of the social profile of the callers shows that the burden falls disproportionately on the poorest section of the population. But not a word from the Torie's friends in UKIP. They would rather incite a bit of spleen directed at China regardless of the fact that the amount saved would be less than half of the premium rate scam.

If York council was operating a premium rate phone scam, there would be an outbreak of apoplexy amongst the ukippers who post on this site, but it's ok when Cameron does it

Jonthan, the Gov Dept premium rate numbers were certainly in place in 2007, that's Tony Blair and Gordon Brown time. OK, it's taken the ConDems the best part of four years to deal with it but at least they are doing so now.

If CoYC were all good then why do they need bouncers at the entrance?

Oh, and did you know that two journalists from the Guardian are on the trapped ship with the BBC staff. At least they won't be making any AGW propaganda on this one and just think of the carbon footprint coming from the three rescue ice breakers. You can't make this up!

On the specific issue of the premium rate phone scam - I imagine fellow readers will be as shocked as I was when ( after quite some searching) for York Council emergency numbers - I found that those at most risk in our city, needing out of hours support from social services and child protection are given 0845 numbers to call - now that is plain wrong - and this from a labour controlled council - I didn't expect that.i wish someone could tell me I am mistaken....James?

"Xenophobia wins again!

I'm not in favour of aid to China"

If you are not a xenophobe then why are you against aid to China? If xenophobia isn't required to oppose aid to China then why mention it?
"The British public..............
....................
... Cameron does it"
Why do you switch to a completely unrelated issue instead of sticking to the subject of the letter?
