OVER the past year I have had to attend York Hospital several times.

I could not speak too highly of the professional help I received. The staff at all levels were unfailingly kind, helpful and efficient, explaining clearly at every stage the purpose and progress of my treatment.

In the end they saved my life and I am grateful to them.

The NHS may not be perfect, it is run by human beings of course, but in my experience York Hospital is as perfect as it is possible to be.

Recently, however, there seems to be covert attempts to undermine the NHS in general by great emphasis on failings and ignoring the great mass of daily good working being done, frequently in difficult circumstances.

In my opinion it is a world-class organisation and it is only a pity there is not a world class Government in charge of it.
